New Delhi, Sept 18 : The Union Cabinet today gave its approval to review the Print Media policy by allowing publication of India editions of foreign magazines publishing news and comments on public news.
Publishers of such editions would continue to be eligible for attracting 26 per cent foreign investment. The broad parameters for granting such permission are as follows:
a) Permission to publish such editions would be granted only to those Indian companies which are registered under the Indian Companies Act, 1956
New Delhi, Sep 18 : The Union Government has said that it will allow foreign telecom companies to bid on their own without a domestic partner for the 3G spectrum but they will have to find a local player before starting services.
Telecom Secretary Siddharth Behura said according to Indian laws, foreign companies can own up to 74 per cent stake and thus they would be required to form a joint venture with an Indian company before starting the services.
‘The foreign telcos can bid for the 3G spectrum on their own but before rolling out services they should find an Indian partner,” he said.
New Delhi, Sept 18 : The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) today gave its approval for initiation of the new Programme “Scholarship for higher Education (SHE)” a component of “Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (INSPIRE)” at a total cost of Rs. 820 crores including Rs. 20 crores as implementation cost during the 11th Plan period.
It will strengthen the innovation infrastructure of the country by promoting human resource development.
New Delhi - A speeding bus killed 16 people in India's eastern state of Bihar as it ploughed into a group of people watching a movie by the roadside, police and news reports said Thursday.
The accident occurred Wednesday night near a highway in Sitamarhi district, 160 kilometres north of state capital Patna, the IANS news agency reported.
Vijay Kumar, a district administrative official, said 12 people were crushed to death on the scene and four succumbed to injuries at a hospital.
New Delhi, Sept 18: Ahmedabad blasts mastermind Mufti Abu Bashir has been brought to Delhi for questioning in connection with the serial blasts in the national Capital.
The interrogation report of Bashir, a cleric from Azamgarh in Uttar Pradesh, had revealed that he stayed in Delhi between July 24 and 27 at two different places.
His brother Abu Zar was working as a parking attendant in Old Delhi while two of his other contacts Danish and Aftab were staying in South Delhi.

He was delivering the inaugural address to an international workshop here today on “Emerging frameworks and issues for Science and Technology (S&T) recruitments”. He suggested scientific organisations to utilize their services.
