PM Manmohan Singh asks corporate not to be lax in governance

Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan SinghNew Delhi, July 1: Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh today said Indian firms will not be able to compete in the world unless they follow the globally recognised norms for transparency in running of businesses.

Speaking on the Diamond Jubilee Year celebrations of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) here, Dr. Singh said, "The few bothered about corporate governance and transparency in accounting and management in the era of protectionism, but such laxity is no longer possible."

Prime Minister Manmohan SinghNew Delhi, June 30: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Monday downplayed the Left Parties threat to withdraw support to the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government, saying that he was confident of facing Parliament before operationalising the US-India civil nuclear cooperation deal that was first signed on July 18, 2005.

Singh said he wanted the Government to be allowed to complete the negotiation process with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the 45-nation Nuclear Supplier’s Group (NSG).
