New Delhi, Jan 10 : Vice President M. Hamid Ansari will inaugurate the 14th National Youth Festival on Monday at Amritisar.
It is for the first time that National Youth Festival would be held in Punjab from January 12-16. Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal will be presiding over the function.
New Delhi, Jan. 10 : The founder and chairman of the Observer Research Foundation, R. K. Mishra, died in Bangalore on Friday night.
Mishra had made his mark on the national scene as an intrepid journalist. An editor of high standing, he was a dynamic and visionary thinker. he was also a parliamentarian of acclaimed integrity and a forceful proponent of social and economic reform.
On an another plane, in the several books that he authored, he explored realms of philosophy, religious thought and belief and the mysteries of man''s inner life. Above all, he was a most warm-hearted human being.
New Delhi, Jan. 9 : The outgoing U. S Ambassador to India David C Mulford on Friday said that the perpetrators of the Mumbai terror attacks needed to be booked.
Speaking at his farewell ceremony here, Mulford said: "The US has been pressing as India has, for deeper understanding in Pakistan of the roots of this problem, learning more and more in the hope that we can bring the people who committed this heinous act to book."
Mulford said that the U. S was determined to work "non-stop" and "as long as it takes" to ensure that the perpetrators of the Mumbai terror attacks are brought to justice.
New Delhi, Jan 9 : Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) and Oil India Ltd workers today called off their three-day strike, which has severely affected supplies of transport fuels.
BPCL Director (Marketing) S Radhakrishnan here today said that the fuel supplies would be resumed by this evening.
More than 70 per cent of the striking employees resumed work in Marketing, Radhakrishnan said.
New Delhi, Jan 9 : The Union Cabinet today approved amendments to the National Commission for Minorities Educational Institutions Act 2004.
The National Commission for Minority Educational Institutions was established through the promulgation of an Ordinance dated November 11, 2004.
The Ordinance was replaced by the National Commission for Minority Educational Institutions Act 2004 (2 of 2005) which was notified on January 6, 2005.
