Former Defence Minister George Fernandes writing in the ''Journal of Socialist Thought and Action'', termed Dr. Lohia as the " greatest socialist leaders of the world."

"Dr. Lohia epitomised in his life the essence of Gandhian and democratic socialist thought and action."

Indian police want death sentence for Mumbai terroristNew Delhi  - Mumbai police are seeking the death penalty for the lone gunman captured alive in terrorist attacks on the city in November last year, news reports said Saturday.

Jayant Patil, home minister of Maharashtra state, said police demanded the death penalty for Ajmal Amir Kasab, the PTI news agency reported.

Kasab, allegedly of the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist group, will face trial for murder and "waging war against India."

Slash lending rates for infrastructure projects: FICCIIndustry body, Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industries (FICCI) asked for lower interest rates in the range of 7 to 8 per cent for infrastructure projects in the country, blaming high lending rates a major cause of stagnation in the growth rate.

FICCI Chairman, Harsh Pati Singhania, while addressing the inauguration summit on infrastructure, said, "The rise in interest rates for project financing in the country have increased and are jeopardizing the financial viability of projects under the PPP mode."

 We may field candidates on three seats left for Congress: Lalu PrasadNew Delhi, Mar 21 : Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav on Saturday said his party and the Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) would contest in three Lok Sabha constituencies now held by the Congress in the state.

His statement came after Congress announced to contest 37 seats in Bihar.

"If Congress is so strong, why were they demanding more seats from us? Instead, we should have demanded the seats from them," Lalu said.
