Pakistan presidential hopeful and PPP Co-chairman Asif Ali ZardariLondon, Aug 26: Pakistan presidential hopeful and PPP Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari was suffering from severe mental illness till last year, as he underwent severe torture during his 11 years of imprisonment in the past two decades in different prisons.

He was diagnosed with a range of psychiatric illnesses, including dementia, major depressive disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder.

He also announced Justice (Retired) Saeeduzzaman Siddiqui as the presidential candidate of PML-N.

Sharif made an official announcement during a press conference. He was accompanied by Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif, Justice (Retd.) Saeeduzzaman Siddiqui, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Raja Zafar-ul-Haq and other PML-N leaders.

Pakistan bans Taliban's leading organization

Baitullah MehsudIslamabad- Pakistan on Monday imposed a ban on the leading organization of the local Taliban after it claimed responsibility for last week's twin suicide attacks at a military-run arms and ammunition factory where more than 80 civilian employees died and around 100 were injured.

Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) is an umbrella group of several militant organizations. It was created in 2007 and a fearsome militant commander in the country's tribal areas bordering Afghanistan, Baitullah Mehsud, was chosen as its first head.

After becoming Prez, Zardari won’t shun party post till son Bilawal takes over PPP

Islamabad, Aug 25: After winning the September 6 presidential election and assuming Pakistan’s highest post, PPP Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari will not disassociate himself from the party, and instead appoint a steering committee to deal with the day-to-day party affairs.

The committee would be responsible for disposing of crucial matters relating to the party till his son PPP Chairman Bilawal takes over the PPP, reported The News.

Zardari will not quit the office of the PPP after getting elected as the president of the country, added the paper.

Pak bans TTP, to freeze its bank accounts

Islamabad, Aug 25: Pakistan’s Interior Ministry has reportedly banned the local unit of the Taliban – the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan – and also decided to freeze its bank accounts.

People associated with the group would be arrested, and the bank accounts of the TTP would be frozen, the Dawn quoted sources in the Interior Ministry as saying.

Earlier, on Sunday the TTP had unilaterally announced a ceasefire with security forces and offered peace talks with the government. However, their request was turned down by the Pakistan government.
