asif ali zardariIslamabad, Aug 29 : In order to fast-forward his ascendancy to the post of President of Pakistan, PPP Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari has misled various stake-holders on different issues like restoration of judges sans deposed chief justice Iftikhar Chaudhry and that he was the unanimous choice of stakeholders for Presidency.

And, he bulldozed every other issue out of his way to grab the most powerful seat in the country, said an article written by noted journalist and group editor of The News, Shaheen Sehbai.

Pak prisoners hide cellphones by stuffing them up their rectums!Lahore, Aug 29 : Prisoners in Pakistan have found a novel way of hiding their cell phones, albeit a bit painful, by stuffing them up their rectums!

In a raid conducted by the Lahore Police, a total of 37 cellphones were recovered, with some of them hidden inside the prisoners’ rectums and detected while they passed under a metal detector.

According to the Daily Times, seven of them had to be operated upon at Services Hospital to get the phones out of their bodies.

Nawaz Sharif says no compromise on restoration of judges

PML-N leader Nawaz SharifIslamabad, Aug 29: PML-N leader and former Pakistan premier Nawaz Sharif has said that there could be no compromise over the reinstatement of all judges, including deposed chief justice Iftikhar Chaudhry. He said that the reinstatement of all judges was agreed upon between the PPP and PML-N and that it was a “solemn pledge” to each other.

In an interview with an Indian English fortnightly news tabloid, he said that even slain PPP leader Benazir Bhutto had also agreed to restoration of Iftikhar Chaudhry as the country’s chief justice.

The incident occurred near the lawless town Darra Adam Khel, about 45 kilometres south of the provincial capital Peshawar, as paramilitary troops fired at a pickup truck that failed to heed warnings to stop at a cordon.

Asif Ali Zardari staying at PM House for ‘security reasons’

Asif Ali ZardariIslamabad, Aug 29: PPP Co-chairman and presidential hopeful Asif Ali Zardari has been living in the Prime Minister’s House for the past one week for “security reasons”, fearing a possible attack from militants because of his recent criticism of the Taliban and call for banning the organisation.

Sources in Islamabad said that Zardari planned to stay in the PM’s House till the presidential election scheduled for Sept 6.

They said that the PPP co-chairman moved to the Prime Minister’s House on the “advice” of his colleagues in the government.

No seats for minority Sikh students in Lahore University

Government College University, LahoreLahore, Aug 29: Sikh students in Lahore have demanded reservation at the Government College University (GCU) after two of them were denied admission because of a lack of minority seats at the institution.

The students said that they must be granted reservation on the lines of reservation for sportsmen, children of teachers, etc.
