PML-N chief and former Pakistani premier Nawaz SharifLahore, Oct 27: PML-N chief and former Pakistani premier Nawaz Sharif has said that the Kashmir issue would have been resolved in accordance with the aspirations of the Kashmiri people “if the PML-N government had not been toppled by the former army chief Pervez Musharraf on October 12, 1999”.

The former premier said his government was dislodged under a planned conspiracy at a time when the resolution of the Kashmir dispute was near, reported the Daily Times.

Suspected US missile strike kills 20 in PakistanIslamabad - At least 20 people were killed in a missile attack carried out by a suspected US drone in Pakistan's tribal region, officials said Monday.

A single missile fired from a pilotless aircraft hit the house of local Taliban commander Mohammad Omar late Sunday in the Shakai area of South Waziristan, they said.

"Commander Omar and 19 more people died in the strike, and three were injured," a security official said.

The attack demolished Omar's house and badly damaged two adjacent buildings.

370 Sikh pilgrims from Pakistan visited India on Guru Ta Gaddi DiwasAmritsar, Oct.26: A group of 370 Sikh pilgrims from Pakistan and some foreign countries crossed over to India on Saturday at Attari border in a religious procession to attend the Guru Ta Gaddi Diwas celebrations at Nanded in Maharashtra.

The group arrived to mark the tercentenary of Guru Granth Sahib at Takht Hazoor Sahib at Nanded. The holy book of Sikhs is revered as living Guru in Sikhism.

Five Sikh Priests as per the Sikh tenets led the religious procession.

Brother of Pakistani Taliban commander found dead

Islamabad - The body was discovered Sunday of a brother of local Taliban top commander Baitullah Mehsud in Pakistan's north- west, officials said.

Yahya Mehsud's body was found in the Domail area of Bannu district bordering the restive tribal region where the feared militant commander is believed to be holed up with hundreds of his men.

"Yes, it is confirmed that the body is that of Mehsud's brother," a police officer told Deutsche Presse-Agentur dpa by telephone from Bannu.

Unlike his brother, Yahya was not involved in militant activities, and was believed to have been killed by his rivals or opponents of Baitullah Mehsud."

‘IMF wants Pakistan to cut army spending’

IMFLahore, Oct 26 : The International Monetary Fund has asked Pakistan to cut military spending by almost a third as fears grew that the country’s economic crisis was now so bad that its role in the war on terror was imperilled, according to a report in The Australian.

The report said the ‘secret IMF demand – one of several things that the country is being asked to agree to for a bailout of its tanking economy – was disclosed as President Asif Ali Zardari prepared to go to Saudi Arabia for help’.

Also on Friday, it was announced that US General David Petraeus would travel to Islamabad next week for talks.
