US strikes in Pakistan kill 301 civilians in 10 months

Islamabad - Dozens of cross-border strikes carried out by US forces from Afghanistan into Pakistan's lawless tribal region have killed 301 civilians and wounded more than 240 others so far in 2008, a media report said Tuesday.

Citing figures compiled by the Interior Ministry, the English-language daily The News said most of those killed in 32 recorded incidents of missile strikes, drone attacks and one ground raid by the US forces were civilians.

According to the report, only eight US strikes hit the targets, killing 36 al-Qaeda and Taliban militants, while the remaining 24 strikes killed 301 civilians and 18 Pakistani security personnel.

PakistanIslamabad, Oct 28 : The Pakistan Senate has reportedly condemned the alleged ‘honour killing’ of a girl in Sindh by her father-in-law, while charging that the child was illegitimate.

In the horrifying incident, the 17-year-old Taslim Solangi, who was eight-month pregnant who was thrown to dogs and was forced to give birth to her baby prematurely by her father-in-law.

Condemning incident, Senator Semeen Siddiqui demanded an inquiry into the incident.

PML-Q senators staged a token walkout in protest against the incident, while others joined the protest.

Lawson says experience can make Malik a good Pak captain

Geoff LawsonLahore, Oct 28 : Sacked Pakistani cricket coach Geoff Lawson has said that if (Pakistan) captain Shoaib Malik gets some experience, he could turn out to be a good captain for his national team.

“If Malik gets some experience, he could prove to be a good captain,” the Daily Times quoted Lawson as telling reporters at the Gaddafi Stadium last evening.

Malik was appointed captain after Pakistan made a first round exit from the World Cup in the West Indies last year.

US missile strike, suicide blast kill over 30 in Pakistan

PakistanIslamabad- At least 20 people were killed in a missile attack carried out by a suspected US drone while 10 security personnel and a technician died in a suicide bombing in Pakistan's tribal region, officials said Monday.

A single missile fired from a pilotless aircraft hit the house of local Taliban commander Mohammad Omar late Sunday in the Shakai area of South Waziristan, they said.

"Commander Omar and 19 more people died in the strike, and three were injured," a security official said.

The attack demolished Omar's house and badly damaged two adjacent buildings.
