Lahore, Jan. 23 : A recent newspaper survey in Pakistan has revealed that over 25 lakh Sikh school children are not being taught their religious language, Gurmukhi.

The Sikh families complained that there were only three schools in Pakistan where Gurumukhi was being taught. However, Muslim students were being taught Arabic in schools to help them read the holy Quran, the Daily Times reports.

Lahore, Jan. 23: A three-member Punjab Sports Department committee has declared the astroturf at Lahore's National Hockey Stadium (NHS) as `unplayable' and dangerous for the players, as it falls short of the international standards.

According to an official press release of the committee, the turf at the stadium is below international standards and may cause serious injury to the players.

"The ground is bumpy and very dangerous for the players," the statement said.

Islamabad - A roadside bomb targeting a military convoy in Pakistan's troubled Swat district on Friday killed at least one civilian and wounded two others, an official said.

The remote-controlled blast took place in the Takhtaband area on the outskirts of Mingora, the main town of Swat where government troops are battling hardcore insurgents to quell a rebellion spearheaded by local radical cleric Maulana Fazlullah.

"One pedestrian was killed and two more were injured in the attack," a military spokesman said.

Islamabad, Jan 23 : An archaeological site, about 5,500 years old, has been found in a district in Pakistan, which has been claimed by experts as being older than the ruins of Moenjodaro.

According to a report in Dawn, the site was found in Lakhian Jo Daro near Goth Nihal Khoso in the district of Sukkur.

The find is said to be of the era of Kot Diji.
