Swedish king opens wind farm in sea off Sweden
Stockholm - Swedish King Carl Gustaf on Tuesday inaugurated a wind park in the Oresund straits between Sweden and Denmark by firing a ceremonial gunshot.
The Lillgrund park went online in December 2007 and consists of 48 wind turbines, sufficient to supply the needs of some 60,000 homes, Swedish state-controlled energy group Vattenfall said.
"With Lillgrund, Sweden's electricity production from wind power is increased six-fold," Hans von Uthmann, head of Vattenfall's Nordic operations, said in a statement.
The ceremony was also attended by Swedish Enterprise and Energy Minister Maud Olofsson and Vattenfall chief executive Lars G Josefsson. (dpa)
