Strike ends at Maruti Suzuki's Manesar plant

Strike ends at Maruti Suzuki's Manesar plantThe worker's strike at Maruti Suzuki India's plant in Manesar in Haryana has ended after days following the company management's decision to accept some of the demands of the workers.

The strike came to an end after a tripartite agreement between the management, workers and the Haryana Government was agreed upon by the parties. Under the new agreement, the management has agreed to take back 64 permanent workers however; another 30 workers will continue to be suspended from the company.

According to some sources, the company might also reinstate around 1,200 casual workers. The management has also accepted plans for setting up of two committees for grievance rederssal and labour welfare in order to provide a harmonious working environment at the plant.

The fortnight long strike came to an end after several rounds of talks that have taken place since Wednesday in the presence of state government officials. It is believed that the management took the case of suspended workers individually to reconsider the punishment handed over to them for indiscipline. When they found that the charges were not serious, they agreed to take the workers back.

Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda had asked the management of Maruti Suzuki to resolve the crisis soon. The company is reportedly looking elsewhere in other states for its expansion plans. The scenario has seriously dented the state's business image and may deter investments.
