Stocks Expected to Rise for Seventh Consecutive Day

Dow-JonesOn Tuesday, the stock market could take its 6 day winning streak a day further and clock 7 consecutive days of higher closing points, if the higher opening figures of futures continue till it is time to close.

The futures of all major US markets, the Dow Jones industrial average, Nasdaq-100 and S&P-500, were higher, which indicates that the stocks could open higher than their last recorded trading price.

On Monday, stocks managed to march strongly ahead, with Dow, S&P 500 and Nasdaq managing to bag fresh high points for the year on the back of some optimism about a rise in retail sales and gains in stocks of some major sectors.

Despite the fact that trading volume is low, with most traders taking the entire week off as Christmas break, the stocks managed to rise. On Friday as well, the whole stock market will remain closed in lieu of New Year's Day.

On Tuesday, financial stocks could be the stars of trading, in addition to gains in other main market segments.

"Into the lull between Christmas and the new year and (leading indexes) are all sitting above resistance levels and in potential 'new high' clean air", said Simon Denham, managing director at Capital Spreads.
