Stellar Lineup for Next Year’s ‘Killing Cancer’ Charity Show
Next year's Killing Cancer fundraiser already boasts an impressive lineup. Among those scheduled to perform at the charity show are The Who and Debbie Harry, of Blondie. Guitarist Jeff Beck and former singer of The Verve Richard Ashcroft will also make an appearance. The latest addition to the group is Brian Adams.
The funds raised will go towards research into Photodynamic Therapy (PDT), a cancer treatment that uses light to destroy cancerous cells. While it is currently uncommon to use PDT to treat cancer, experts believe that it will be able to treat the disease in a single sitting. The treatment works by combining light with a photosynthesizer, a chemical compound that cuts off the oxygen reaching the target cells.
The concert is being organised by Harvey Goldsmith, a promoter, The Who's manager Bill Curbishley, and singer Robert Plant, all of whom have lost people close to them because of cancer. PDT may have been able to save their lives, says Mr. Curbishley, or at least afforded them some dignity in their last weeks.
Beck said: "I am pleased to be asked to support such a vital cause. Any new breakthrough in cancer treatment should be taken very seriously and we want as many people to know about that as possible"."
The concert will be held on January 13 next year, at the HMV Hammersmith Apollo in London.
