SpaceX will Attempt Rocket Landing at Cape Canaveral ground

The US space agency NASA has said SpaceX’s next Falcon 9 rocket will attempt to land on solid ground at Cape Canaveral. If it tastes success, it will be first successful landing and recovery of the aerospace company’s flagship rocket, as per NASA officials.

It is not the first time when SpaceX will try to land a rocket on earth. Before it, the company has tried to land its terrestrial rockets at sea, but both the times, the experiments failed. Now, the company has decided to land the first stage booster back on solid ground.

The launch, which may take place as soon as December 15, will be a major next step for business magnate Elon Musk’s SpaceX. The launch will be the company’s first since a mission in July this year when an uncrewed Falcon 9 broke apart mid-flight. If the mission tastes success, SpaceX will become second company to land a rocket safely on earth. Last week, Blue Origin’s rocket landed softly on land.

NASA officials announced SpaceX’s upcoming attempt during a press conference Tuesday. While discussing the plan with an executive of the company, Carol Scott, a technical integrator for NASA’s Commercial Crew Program, said, “Their plan is to try to land the rocket stage out here on the Cape side”.

The near future attempt of SpaceX will be the first major step towards using reusable rockets for commercial space launches.
