Sony Ericsson looking to launch its App Store
Striving to make significant impact in the global mobile phone market, the mobile phone maker Sony Ericsson has made some really important announcements at the annual JavaOne software developers' conference in San Francisco, California. Sony Ericsson has announced to launch its online software applications store like Apple’s App Store, RIM’s BlackBerry World, and Nokia Ovi Store.
According to Sony Ericsson, the App Store will be launched this summer (most probably in August, according to speculations), and the application developers have been asked to submit their apps, based on Java ME or Symbian platforms, from the 1st July, 2009. The service of the Sony Ericsson App Store will initially be available in the 13 countries where PlayNow Arena is currently available.
Meanwhile, Sony Ericsson has opened its PlayNow Arena for the mobile phones in India. The PlayNow is Sony Ericsson’s entertainment download service, which allows the users to download music, games, ringtones, wallpapers, themes, etc. through the Sony Ericsson phones. The Sony Ericsson mobile phone users in India are now able to enjoy the ceaseless entertainment service PlayNow offering one click access to music, games, films, ringtones, wallpapers, video clips, themes, animated content, and more.
Some of the game titles available on PlayNow include Need for Speed, Harry Potter, FIFA and SIMS. PlayNow offers music in several local Indian languages. The content offered on PlayNow is compatible with a number of Sony Ericsson’s Java ME platform phones. Nearly 70 models of Sony Ericsson phones in the Indian market are capable of accessing the service. PlayNow offers content for download in the price range of Rs. 9 to Rs. 99. Additionally, PlayNow is compatible with GPRS services.
