Social unrest and political instability likely fron financial crisis: Ban Ki-moon

Ban condemns deadly twin attacks in Pakistan ABU DHABI, Nov. 29th, 2008: Secretary-General of the United Nations Ban Kin-moon today warned against social unrest and political instability arising from the current
global financial crisis and are likely to exacerbate all other problems facing humanity.

The financial crisis, which has hit all nations and "has brought an abrupt end to a long era of global growth, compounds other major threats: climate change, food insecurity,
the terrible persistence of extreme poverty," remarked Ki-moon.

If not handled properly, he said today's financial crisis will become tomorrow's human crisis.

The UN Chief comments came in his statement at the opening of The Follow-Up International Conference On Financing For Development which started today in Doha,
Qater.

Ki-moon urged the international community for "much more" work and coordination to face the crisis with "fiscal measures (which) must be bold and decisive." (WAM/MMYS)
