Sir Hector Sants quits Barclays

Sir Hector Sants quits BarclaysSir Hector Sants, a senior former regulator, has quit his job at the Barclays banking group only a month after going on a sick leave form the bank.

Sir Sants has worked as the Financial Services Authority (FSA) chief and had joined Barclays 10 months earlier as the head of compliance and government and regulatory relations. However, he went on sick leave in the previous month suffering from stress and exhaustion and has since decided to leave the job at the bank.

He will be replaced by Allen Meyer on an interim basis as the bank will begin the search for a new person for filling the role. Meyer had held another senior compliance role and was reporting to Sir Hector in the company. RBS this year hired former FSA managing director Jon Pain as the head of its compliance functions. Standard Chartered hired Jean Moorhouse from the Bank of England's prudential regulation authority for a similar role this year.

HSBC looked to overhaul its regulatory and compliance functions and is hiring 3,000 more staff. It has also taken in Serious Organised Crime Agency boss Bill Hughes.
