Shortened Logan is a possibility in Renault-Mahindra JV

LoganWhile both the parties, i. e. Mahindra and Renault are still busy finding out various ways how the JV can be taken on track, the company officials believe that a hatch version of the Logan is a possibility. However, making the changes in the product only for one market may not prove a very decent offer from Mahindra.

But it will still be subject to the approval of Renault and the kind of ownership changes that are expected in the new agreement. Notably, the unit sales had been dwindling for Logan for the past many months.

The much-popular product in the global market, sold only 4,981 units in April- February 2009-10, down 60.03% as compared to a year ago period. On the other end, its counterparts i. e. Tata Motors' Indigo and Maruti Suzuki's Dzire have been able to take the market by storm. Renault also hasn't ruled out the possibility of assembling the Logan at Nissan's Chennai plant, its Japanese affiliate.

Renault is also working with players like Bajaj and Ashok Leyland for its respective small car projects. The French automaker declared at the 10th auto expo that it will be launching many products for the Indian market in the coming months starting with the launch of Micra to be expected in May this year.
