Sending Message to Aliens could also pass on dangerous computer viruses

British scientists are working on a message to be sent to extraterrestrials. A team from the UK Seti (Search for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence) group is in favor of putting in efforts to reach out to alien life forms in September.

For now, the group is not sure what should be in the message. Not only this, the group is also concerned that through the message they might accidentally send virus into space that may affect technology of other civilizations.

Dr Anders Sandberg of the Future of Humanity Institute at Oxford University was present at the British Science Festival. He was of the view that humans should extra careful about the digital messages they send into space.

“The classic example of message would be a series of pulses which showed binary numbers, DNA, sketch of solar system or the number of humans. But it turns out there are some security problems. Languages can hide a lot of information”, said Dr. Sandberg, who also concerned about sending malware to aliens.

He is even divided on whether it is good idea to send message, as he sees a lot of problems in this idea. To figure out the message that can be sent to space, the UK research network for SETI (UKSRN) has collaborated with the Breakthrough Message Initiative and has also inviting the public to do the same.
