Scotland car sales rise 4% in August
According to the latest figures released, the total car sale in Scotland has increased just 4 per cent during the month of August compared to the same month of the previous year.
The data showed by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders showed that a total of 5986 new cars were sold in Scotland during the month of August compared to 5756 in August, 2011. The figures also showed that the total new car registrations rose 11 per cent with 65,937 units compared to 59,433 during the month of August.
During 2013, Scotland has recorded a rise of 13 per cent in new car sales compared to the same time of the previous year. SMMT said that the number of new cars registered in August rose 10.9 per cent to 65,937 compared to the same month of the previous year. The total cars sold this year increased to 1,391,788, recording an increase of 10.4 per cent compared to the January-August of the previous year.
The SMMT's new chief executive Mike Hawes said, "UK new car registrations have now risen consecutively for a year and a half. Private and fleet buyers are clearly capitalising on attractive deals and new technology against a backdrop of increasing economic confidence."
Ford Fiesta, the Vauxhall Astra and the Volkswagen Golf emerged as the top selling models, the data showed.
