Sanjay, Manyata & Their Marriage Registration!
Manyata has moved an application, on Friday, to withdraw the arguable residence certificate that she passed on to register her marriage with the Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt in Goa.
The request made by Mrs. Dutt to authorities in Salcete taluka in South Goa is treated as her response towards the notice issued earlier by a senior revenue official Paresh M Fal Dessai, inquiring why the residence certificate should not be cancelled.
A marriage registration in Goa needs a residential proof expressing at least six months of stay in the state.
Manyata’s residence certificate was suspended over worries that her claim that she had been living in South Goa for last six months.
Afterwards, their marriage registration was put on hold by the court.
The revenue officer had asked Manyata to be present in court on February 19 to make clear the legality of the certificate submitted by her.
But, Manyata’s attorney demanded two weeks, and March 9 was fixed as the hearing date.
Sanjay Dutt and Manyata, who got married in a secret marriage ceremony in Goa on Feb 7, made the request to the Salcete Sub-Registrar pleading that they do not want to register their marriage under the Portuguese Civil Code, 1867.
The couple's declaration said, “We are withdrawing the declaration of or marriage because we did not know that Goa is governed by Portugal Civil Code. We wanted to get our marriage solemnised under the Special Marriage Act, 1954.”
