Chandigarh, Mar 17: The tour of cultural troupes of Greek and Russian folk artists in Punjab has been a great success.

Playing the ‘dhol’, a traditional Punjab instrument, was an enthralling experience for the Greek artists. It was exciting experience for them-- the costumes, the language and the dances.

"We meet a different and new culture in India, which is very interesting and rich. We are very happy to be here. We are having a great time,” said Zahirina Bozuka, an artist from Greece.

Yahini, another artist from Greece added, "Punjabi people are proud. They feel proud wherever they talk about their homeland. It is same for us as well. Great warriors of India came from Punjab. And best warriors came from Greece."

Common to both cultures was the rhythm.

Fifteen dancers from Greece, clad in vibrant costumes, performed the traditional folk dances of their state, Crete Paradise Islands, City of Chania.

The Russian Troupe also performed three traditional Russian dances - Karlimka, Kagrimi and Jablochkao.

"Watching the performances of other artists, we become familiar with the rhythm and style of performances. Similarly, they too get familiar with our folk dances. In an interaction, Greek and Russian artists cherished the liveliness of Punjabi folk dances and that will help our culture expand in other countries,” said Pradeep Singh, a Bhanagra artist from Punjab.

The vivacious and lively Bhangra was performed by the students of the Ramgarhia Education Trust.
