Regular Walking Reduces Disability Risk in Elderly
Various studies from time to time have proved the health related benefits of walking. The new research led by Moore-Harrison proved that daily walks decrease the level of disability in the older adults.
A 40-minutes walk daily can give a dimension to the lives of the old people. 26 low –income elders were studied under the research regarding impact of walking on the health of old people.
Under the present study these old people were divided into two groups. The first group met three times a week for four months. This group started with the exercise of ten minutes daily later they increased it upto forty minutes.
The research showed the elderly increased their independence level by 41 percent. The physical health of these people also improved simultaneously.
Moore-Harrison said, "We know that walking is good for you, but too many people still aren't doing it." He added, "This study shows that just walking on a regular basis can make a huge impact on quality of life."
The researchers claimed that this research was important because it involved old people who were not very affluent. A few minutes spent on walking everyday can make a great in lives of elderly. These minutes can lower their medical expenses along with boasting their social lives .The elderly enjoyed themselves during these walks they came to know their neighbors.
