Kanpur blast: One arrested, three detained

Uttar PradeshKanpur, Oct. 15 : Kanpur Police have arrested one person and detained three others in connection with a blast in the Colonelgunj area of the city.

Kamal Kumar Sahu, who runs a general store near the site of the blast that left seven people, including four children, injured Tuesday night, was arrested today.

According to Dayanand Mishra, Superintendent of Police (West), Sahu did not have the required license to sell the crackers and was arrested for illegally storing and selling them.

Mayawati says Sonia Gandhi''s jail going threat is political drama

New Delhi, Oct. 15 : Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati on Wednesday described Congress president Sonia Gandhi''s challenge that she was ready to go to jail if not allowed into her constituency Rae Bareli as political drama.

Criticising the ruling United Progressive Alliance (UPA) for their step-motherly treatment of Uttar Pradesh, Mayawati denied that she was playing politics through her decision to cancel the allotment of land for building a Railway Coach Factory that was to be inaugurated by Gandhi on Tuesday.

Irked by Sonia Gandhi’s remarks, Mayawati termed her allegations as baseless.

Seven injured in Kanpur blast

KanpurKanpur, Oct 14 : Blast rocked Kanpur''s Colonelganj area injuring seven people. The injured include three children and a woman.

Initial reports say the bomb was kept on a bicycle in old Kanpur area. Nature of the blast is not known yet. The device was reportedly placed on a rented bicycle.

Kanpur SSP Hari Lal said it is not a terrorist activity. The same is being conveyed to the locals. Loose gravel might have injured, the officer added.

Allahabad HC stays UP government’s order on rail coach project

Uttar Pradesh, LucknowLucknow, Oct 13 : The Allahabad High Court today stayed the Uttar Pradesh Government’s order stalling the rail coach project in Rae Bareli in Uttar Pradesh.

The High Court today heard the writ petition filed by the Centre challenging the order of the Mayawati Government cancelling the allotment of land for the project in Rae Bareli, which is Congress President Sonia Gandhi’s parliamentary constituency.

The Court’s Lucknow bench heard the writ moved by Union of India through Secretary, Railway Board, Ministry of Railways and two others.

Rae Bareli farmers saddened over cancellation of land for railway coach factory

Rae Bareli/ New Delhi/ Lucknow, Oct 13: With Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati cancelling the land allotment for a rail coach factory project at Lalganj in Rae Bareli, which was proposed by Congress president and Lok Sabha MP in her constituency, farmers here are a dejected lot. They feel the project could have provided a number of jobs and ensured the overall development of the region.

"We also want that we get jobs at this rail coach factory apart from farming. We would be able to earn money and will eke out living for our family that way," said Shivshankar Vajpayee, a farmer.

The Uttar Pradesh Government had yesterday cancelled the allotment of 189.25 hectares of land for a new state-run railway coach factory in Rae Bareli district.
