Alaskans want Sarah Palin to be herself during veep debate

Sarah PalinWashington, Oct 2: People who know Sarah Palin, and have watched her swift rise from small-town mayor to Alaska Governor to history-making vice presidential nominee, say she needs to be herself in her debate Thursday with her Democrat rival Joe Biden even if it means slipping up or appearing to fall out of step with John McCain's campaign.

“What I would tell her is ... Let Sarah be Sarah,” FOX News quoted Palin’s former pollster David Dittman, as saying.

Washington, Oct 2 : Americans fear that the current financial crisis has far-reaching effects for the nation as a whole, and are split over whether the current bailout plan is the answer.

Meanwhile, the approval ratings for both President George W. Bush and Congress have plummeted to historic lows, according to a new CBS News poll.

Americans overwhelmingly see the financial crisis as hurting everyone, with 92 percent saying it hurts the nation as a whole. Just 39 percent, however, say the bailout would help everyone, while more than half of those surveyed think it would help only Wall Street.

New York, Oct 2: Democrat vice presidential nominee Joseph R. Biden Jr. is getting advice from a woman who has been an intimate since he was a grade school student with a stutter and a paper route, to take on his rival Sarah Palin in Thursday night’s debate.

“He’s been my best friend all my life. I opened my eyes and he was there and he said, ‘Let’s go.’ I was his sidekick,” said Biden’s sister, Valerie Biden Owens.

As Biden Owens, 62, spoke, she summoned the ghost of her younger self, a kid sister trailing awestruck behind her big brother, Joey, the New York Times reported.

US Senate passes 700 billion dollar bailout package

Washington, Oct 2 : The 700 billion dollar financial industry bailout found a second life on Thursday, winning lopsided passage in the US Senate and gaining ground in the House of Representatives, where Republicans opposition softened.

On September 30, the US House of Representatives had defeated the 700 billion dollar bailout package with a vote of 228 to 205, as Republicans delivered fewer votes for the proposal than House leaders expected.

Senators loaded the economic rescue bill with tax breaks and other sweeteners before passing it by a wide margin, 74-25, a month before the presidential and congressional elections.
