Tehran - A senior Iranian member of parliament on Sunday harshly opposed the establishment of the American Iranian Council (AIC) in Tehran, ISNA news agency reported.

Washington last week granted permission for the New Jersey-based research and policy think tank group to set up an office in Tehran in what is widely believed to be an effort to improve ties after almost three decades of political hostility.

Tehran - Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Thursday dismissed Western allegations of discriminating religious minorities and said that all minorities were part of the "grand Iranian family," the news network Khabar reported.

"The enemies (of Iran) play some games by claiming discord between Iran and religious minorities but these games will have no impacts as we are all part of the grand Iranian family," Ahmadinejad said in a meeting with the parliament deputies representing the religious minorities in Iran.

Tehran- Iran's interior minister admitted that the honorary doctorate from Oxford University that he presented to parliament was a fake, Fars news agency reported Tuesday.

In a letter to President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Interior Minister Ali Kordan confirmed the certificate was a fake but claimed that he was victim of a swindle by a man who allegedly posed as a representative of the British university in Tehran.

Tehran - The Iranian parliament speaker on Sunday warned of "new decisions" by Tehran following the latest United Nations Security Council resolution condemning the country, ISNA news agency reported.

"While the course of the talks in the recent weeks was going towards setting a new timetable for further negotiations, suddenly the 5+1 (Security Council permanent members plus Germany) came up with this new showpiece," Ali Larijani said.

The new resolution on Saturday called on Iran to "comply fully" with past UN demands to halt its uranium-enrichment programmes.

Tehran  - The head of the Iranian Atomic Organization will go to Vienna to attend the General Assembly of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), official news agency IRNA reported Saturday.

Gholam-Reza Aqazadeh, who is also vice-president, is scheduled to address the assembly Monday and is also expected to meet with IAEA director general Mohamed ElBaradei, IRNA said.

Aqazadeh is in charge of the technical aspects of Iran's nuclear programmes while Saeid Jalili, as chief nuclear negotiator, is in charge of political talks with the world powers through European Union foreign policy chief Javier Solana.
