Bomb attack damages construction firm in northern Spain

SpainMadrid- A bomb attack attributed to the Basque separatist group ETA in northern Spain damaged a construction company but there were no injuries, police said.

The explosion in the town of Orio, near the port city of San Sebastian, damaged some equipment sheds and several vehicles, police said.

The construction company is involved in building a motorway linking the industrial city of Bilbao and the French border.

Hugo Chavez arrives in Spain to "hug" king and normalize relations

Chavez and Juan Carlos were scheduled to hold a one-hour meeting in the Marivent palace in the Majorca capital Palma, where the royal family is on holiday.

Spanish police discover ETA arms cache

Madrid - Spanish police have discovered an arms cache of the militant Basque separatist group ETA, police confirmed Thursday.

The cache, which was found near Ezcaray in the northern Rioja region following the dismantling of the most important ETA cell on Tuesday, contained an automatic rifle, tools for stealing cars and tranquillizers.

The discovery followed the arrests of nine suspects associated with ETAs so-called Vizcaya complex, including its leader Arkaitz Goikoetxea, on Tuesday.

The cell was planning a large-scale car bombing before the end of the month in the Basque locality of Getxo, where one of the detainees lived and where ETA has staged several attacks, press reports said.

Spain denies snubbing Equatorial Guinea president

Miguel Angel MoratinosMadrid  - Spanish Foreign Minister Miguel Angel Moratinos on Wednesday denied press reports that Equatorial Guinean President Teodoro Obiang had cancelled a visit to Spain because King Juan Carlos and Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero declined to meet with him.

The tiny oil-rich central African country had not requested such meetings, Moratinos said, explaining that no plans had been made for Obiang to visit Spain.

ETA arrests may have foiled attacks against tourism - reports

SpainMadrid- The dismantling of the most dangerous cell of the militant Basque separatist group ETA may have foiled a string of bombings in tourist resorts during the holiday season, press reports said Wednesday.

Nine suspected members of ETA's Vizcaya cell, including its leader Arkaitz Goikoetxea, were arrested on Tuesday.

Police seized maps of touristic southern Spanish cities such as Cadiz, Seville, Granada and Huelva, a general one of the Costa del Sol region, and a map of the Portuguese capital Lisbon.
