Pak rightist leaders say US’ interference will break the nationPeshawar, Oct 17 : At a “Down with America” seminar, several Islamist leaders in Pakistan condemned America’s interference in Pakistan’s internal and external affairs, and said that the US had been trying to “destabilise and disintegrate” Pakistan.

They were also of the view that the Pakistani leadership was “incapable of running the country’s affairs due to which Pakistan was unsafe”. However, they expressed the hope that the confidence of the people and “patriotic leaders” would together frustrate the US’ designs.

Pak students’ visit convinces them of India’s love for their country

Peshawar, Oct 15 : A group of Pakistani college students were a bit apprehensive about visiting India to attend a peace conference in Chandigarh, but once they landed on the Indian soil, all their fears had gone and they got warm welcome wherever they went. On learning they were from Pakistan, shopkeepers gave them discounts and people at large showered love on them, saying they wanted peace with their neighbouring country.

According to the Daily Times, families of Laila Shiraz, Feroz Faisal Shah, Nadeh Ali Mir and Mubasharullah vehemently opposed their India visit because of “poor relations” between the two countries. They too were nervous as they were going to a country which has fought four major wars with their beloved country.

Japanese aid worker kidnapped in eastern AfghanistanPeshawar, Oct 14 : Police in Mohamand Agency in FATA claimed to have arrested an American national, said to be of Afghan descent, while trying to illegally enter the Agency. He was reportedly carrying a laptop, maps and other documents.

“We have arrested an American national at Yakaghund checkpost with a computer, some maps and other documents while crossing into Mohmand,” the Daily Times quoted sources as saying.

He said this should be stopped, else it would result in civil war in the Tribal and settled areas of the NWFP.

Pak law enforcement agencies still searching for missing Afghan diplomatPeshawar, Oct 13 : Amid unconfirmed reports about the recovery of the missing Afghan ambassador-designate Abdul Khaliq Farahi, Pakistani law enforcement agencies have said that they were still searching for him.

“We had heard that the top Afghan diplomat has been recovered but officially we have no information about his return and we are still searching different areas for him,” The News quoted a senior police official in Peshawar as saying.

NWFP govt to create more jobs to prevent youths from joining Taliban

PakistanPeshawar, Oct 13: The NWFP government is planning to increase economic activity through offering more government jobs in the province in a bid to curb the wave of Talibanisation, the ruling party the ANP (Awami National Party) has said.

In a statement, ANP working committee member Gul Mina Bilal said that the Taliban were “misguiding unemployed youths, who were joining their ranks”.
