Three Pak Taliban commanders unite to wage jihad

Miranshah, Feb 23: The Taliban in Waziristan has announced forming a `Shura Ittehadul Mujahideen' (Council of United Mujahideen) to wage jihad "in an organised manner."

A meeting of all the three groups was held at a remote destination in Waziristan, which was attended by heads of the three estranged outfits, which include Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan of Baitullah Mehsud in South Waziristan, Hafiz Gul Bahadur's Group in North Waziristan and Mulla Nazir Group in South Waziristan.

According to the declaration, the participants agreed to form a new group `Shura Ittehad-ul-Mujahiden' after a meeting continued for three days.

Pakistani official swapped for Taliban militants in Swat Islamabad - Taliban militants in Pakistan's troubled Swat district have swapped a senior government administrator and his six guards for three of their comrades, media reports said on Monday.

Khushhal Khan, who was designated as the head of Swat's administration, was kidnapped Sunday along with his police escort by gunmen on the outskirts Mingora, the main town of the district, and held captive in Qamber area for several hours.

Khun was travelling to Mingora to assume his new position.

UK agents ‘colluded with torture in Pakistan’: Intelligence sources

London, Feb 22 : A shocking new report alleges widespread complicity between British security agents and their Pakistani counterparts who have routinely engaged in the torture of the suspects.

Civil Liberties Group of Human Rights Watch could publish a report next month, which will show at least ten Britons allegedly tortured in Pakistan.

United Kingdom Foreign Secretary David Miliband has been under fire for refusing to disclose US documents relating to the treatment of Guantanamo detainee and former British resident Binyam Mohamed.

The documents are believed to contain evidence about the torture of Mohamed and British complicity in his maltreatment. Mohamed will return to Britain this week.

Pakistan reluctant to hand over Mumbai terror suspects: Mukherjee

External Affairs Minister Pranab MukherjeeKolkata, Feb 22 : External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee on Sunday said that Pakistan has been showing reluctance to hand over the arrested individuals by its authorities in connection with Mumbai terror attacks of last November.

"Though, Pakistan promised to help India into the investigation of Mumbai attacks, but it was reluctant to hand over the militants to India," Mukherjee told media persons on the sidelines of a meeting at the Indian Statistical Institute (ISI), adding, "Pakistan is still in denial mood, we know it."

Taliban to review Pakistani government's truce in Swat

Islamabad  - A Pakistani government official claimed that a "permanent ceasefire" was reached with militants in the troubled Swat valley, but the Taliban said their Shura council would decide once their own 10-day truce ends next week, media reports said Sunday.

The Taliban last weekend announced a unilateral ceasefire, which will expire on Wednesday, to welcome talks between a hard-line Muslim cleric, Maulana Sufi Mohammad, and the authorities for enforcement of Sharia laws in the region.

The North West Frontier Province government on Monday said that under an agreement with Mohammad, Islamic system of justice would come into force in Malakand division, of which Swat is a part, soon after peace was restored in the valley.
