Nun to Cooperate Orissa police

The Catholic nun, raped during Kandhamal communal violence, has finally agreed to co-operate Orissa police for test identification parade.

But she has demanded for a change in the venue for parade.

"She is under treatment and therefore cannot travel such a long distance," Cuttack-Bhubaneswar Archbishop Raphael Cheenath said on Wednesday.

"She had undergone a traumatic experience at Kandhamal, therefore she would not like to go there again to identify the culprits," added Chennath.

The catholic nun was allegedly raped during Orissa Bandh on 25 August at Knuagaon.

Hindu leader shot dead in Kandhamal

Violence returned to Kandhamal district of Orissa, after a month with the killing of a Hindu leader by unknown gun men.

Dhanurjay Pradhani of village Kumbharigaon under Brahmanigaon police limits was shot dead by three un-identified armed extremists at a construction site near the village school on Wednesday afternoon.

Pradhani was an activist of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and said to be influential in the locality.

'We suspect Maoist hand in the killing,' Arun Sarangi, deputy inspector general of police, told.

But the locals have blamed Christians for the murder.

2500 doctors resigned in Orissa

Angry over the dismissal of three of their colleagues, who had allegedly cut off the palms of five tribals' nearly 2500 Government doctors in Orissa resigned en masse to protest the Government decision.

"The doctors have sent the mass resignation letters to the state health secretary, Anu Garg," Madhusudan Mishra, president of the Orissa Medical Service Association (OMSA), told.

OMSA has total of 3000 members. Remaining doctors would tender their resignation in a day or two he said.

The controversy of cutting palms erupted while these three doctors were performing autopsies on five tribals killed in police firing in kalinganagar industrial hub in Jajpur district, 120 Kms from Bhubaneswar.

Bhubaneshwar Oct 31 : Orissa government today suspended five policemen in the nun rape case in Kandhamal district.

Talking to reporters Home Secretary T K Mishra said that five policemen have been placed under suspension for misconduct and negligence of duty in connection with the nun rape case.

The action was taken on the basis of a joint report filed by Kandhamal district collector Krishna Kumar and Superintendent of Police Prabin Kumar.

According to official sources, the policemen who were suspended are assistant sub-inspector Rasananda Mallick, Havildar major K N Mohapatra and Havildars S K Hamim, J S Khan and B K Mohanty, official sources said.
