New Delhi, Apr 6 : President Pratibha Patil has condoled the passing away of Puducherry Lt. Governor Govind Singh Gurjar.

In a condolence message to his wife, Kamlesh Gurjar, the President said, " Gurjar was a well-known public figure, who worked for the welfare of the people in Rajasthan, during his public life. His passing away is a deep loss for the people, especially for those in Rajasthan."

Gurjar died following a cardiac arrest here on Monday.

New Delhi, Apr 6 : President Pratibha Patil has greeted her countrymen on the occasion of Mahavir Jayanti, which will be celebrated tomorrow.

In her message, President Patil said: "On the occasion of Mahavir Jayanti, I extend my greetings and good wishes to all my fellow citizens."

"May the message of Lord Mahavir, of love, compassion and peace, guide our conduct and inspire us to follow the path of Ahimsa for good of all humanity,'' the President added.

New Delhi, Apr 6 : Trade Minister Kamal Nath will represent Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh at the Seventh ASEAN-India Summit and the Fourth East Asia Summit scheduled to be held on April 11-12 in Thailand.

These Summits are held annually by the Association of South East Nations (ASEAN) and attended by heads of State/Government of the ten ASEAN member countries and its dialogue partners such as India, China, Japan, Korea, etc.

New Delhi, Apr 6 : Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh has expressed grief over the demise of Puducherry Lt. Governor Govind Singh Gurjar.

In his condolence message, Dr. Singh remembered Gurjar as a prominent leader of Rajasthan and a dedicated social worker.

"Gurjar always kept up the high traditions of public life, and discharged his duties as the Lt. Governor of Puducherry with grace and dignity," he said.

The Prime Minister conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the members of the bereaved family.

New Delhi, Apr. 6 : Warlukurlangu Artists, Australia, in partnership with art curator, Durga Vishwanathan, are showcasing contemporary Australian art in New Delhi.

Titled `Desert Dreamings', the paintings from the Central Desert of Australia is the first exhibition of contemporary art of Central Australian Indigenous artists in India. The exhibition is being held between April 6 to 12.

New Delhi - At least four people were killed by a car-bomb in India's north-eastern state of Assam Monday, news reports said.

More than 20 people were wounded in the explosion that occurred in the crowded market area in the Maligaon suburb of state capital Guwahati, the NDTV network reported.

Several cars and shops caught fire following the bombing and fire tenders were rushed to the area to douse the blaze, the report said.

Authorities said they suspected Assam's biggest separatist outfit, United Liberation Front of Asom.
