Malaysian Indian Congress hails government allocation for Tamil schools

Malaysia India CongressKuala Lumpur, Nov. 5 : The Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC) has lauded the Government’s move to set aside RM 50 million to improve Tamil schools in the country.

The Star quoted party secretary-general Dr S. Subramaniam as saying that the allocation indicated that the government has not forsaken the Malay Indian community and wanted to improve the infrastructure of Tamil schools nationwide.

(303,000 dollars) worth of drugs were found missing from a police evidence room, officials and news reports said Tuesday.

More than 40 of the officers were from the southern Johor state, while the remaining men were from the capital Kuala Lumpur and northern Penang state police forces, a police spokesman said.

Malaysian cops caught playing mahjong while on duty

Kuala Lumpur - Five Malaysian policemen were caught playing the Chinese board game mahjong while on patrol duty, a news report said Thursday.

The suspects had gathered in a home in the southern Johor state and were gambling when a team of fellow officers from the national police headquarters raided the building, the Star daily said.

The five officers, in their 20s and 30s, were dressed in their uniforms and were supposed to be on patrol duty in various parts of the state.

The suspects have been suspended from duty and will face disciplinary action, sources were quoted as saying by the report.

State Executive Council member Dr A. Xavier Jayakumar said the demolitions were carried out by the local authorities.

According to nstonline. com, so far this year, 54 new applications had been approved by the committee tasked with regulating non-Muslim places of worship. Among the applications are for 25 Hindu temples, 19 Buddhist temples and 10 churches.

First AirAsia flight between Malaysia, India from Dec 1

Kuala Lumpur, Oct 28 : Indian Government has reportedly given its green signal to AirAsia to fly daily to and fro between Kuala Lumpur and Tiruchi from Dec 1.

The airline would start selling tickets to Tiruchi in Tamil Nadu at midnight tomorrow, said AirAsia chief executive officer Datuk Seri Tony Fernandes.

“It will be a daily flight and we are looking at even adding a second flight now as the initial response has been tremendous,” staronline.com quoted him as telling reporters at a press conference here yesterday.

Special promotional prices for the flight will cost RM49 one way while the normal ticket price will cost about RM200 one way, he added.

In a post on his blog chedet. com on October 23, the ex-premier claimed that it was embarrassing for him to see that a controversy had erupted over Malacca’s decision to confer Shah Rukh with a Datukship.
