Sohra (Meghalaya), Mar 8 (ANI): The first ever ''Rain Rock Festival'' was organised in Sohra on February 20 to explore prospects of eco-tourism in Meghalaya.

The two-day festival entitled "unveil the destination" was aimed at showcasing Sohra, previously known as Cherrapunji, the spot known for highest rainfall in the world, as a possible world heritage site and tapping the tourist potential of the place.

New Delhi, Mar 9 : India''s indigenous Ballistic Missile Defence System, which will be able to intercept and destroy enemy missile, will be ready for deployment by

India on Friday inched closer towards its endeavour to put in place its own home-grown ballistic missile defence system as it successfully carried out the third Interceptor test on March 6 from Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Wheeler Island in Orissa.

Leirongthel Pitra (Manipur), Mar 9 : Uncertainty and fear have gripped people in the remote villages of Thoubal District of Manipur due to constant threats by militants.

Unable to handle the situation, people have decided to leave the villages and have sought the state Government's help for protection from militants.

Leirongthel Pitra is one village in the area which has 118 households and a population of 550 . It is located about 45 kilometers away from Imphal.

Village Khalchain, located near Amritsar, has been holding the rural sports meet since 1952. Since then, event is growing bigger by the year.

The event was started by four sports teachers, who wanted to turn the village youth towards sports to prevent them from getting addicted to drugs.

New Delhi - Tibetan leaders and groups in India Monday said thousands of protestors will join anti-China demonstrations to commemorate the 50th anniversary of an uprising that forced 140,000 Tibetans into exile.

The protests for the 50th anniversary that falls Tuesday include rallies, marches and hunger-strikes in the northern hill-town of Dharamsala, home to Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama, and in the Indian capital New Delhi.
