Kidnapped engineer in Afghanistan returns to India

Suralpady (Karnataka), May 29 : Sarang Mohammad Naeem, an Indian who was kidnapped in Afghanistan, returned to his hometown Suralpady in Mangalore.

Naeem was among the two kidnapped road workers from India and Nepal freed by Afghan security forces in a raid on May 18.

The duo, employees of a road project, was seized from a vehicle while traveling on a highway on April 21 in the western province of Herat, which borders Iran.

Naeem, who was working for a Dubai-Canadian company in a road construction project in remote Adraskan on the Afghanistan-Iran border, was abducted along with a Nepalese colleague on April 21.

Chhattisgarh farmer grows brinjal and tomatoes from same plant

Mahasamund (Chhattisgarh), May 29 : A 63-year-old farmer in Chhattisgarh has successfully grown tomatoes and brinjal in the same pot and even grafted them with such perfection that the end results are surprising.

Bhagirathi Prasad Bisai has been conducting such innovative experiments in horticulture for the past decade.

After several experiments, Bisai acquired success in growing two different vegetables from the stem of same plant, employing the grafting technique.

Grafting is a popular plant propagation method widely used in horticulture, where the tissues of one plant are fused with those of another.

Bisai was overwhelmed to see the desired result with his experiment that initially seemed impossible.

Chhattarpur (Madhya Pradesh), May 28 : Water has becomes a saleable commodity in the drought hit Chhatarpur District in Madhya Pradesh, as the poverty-ridden people of the region are compelled to purchase it to quench their thirst.

The taps are running dry in Chhatarpur and people are managing their water requirements by buying water.

For a single trip, the water tanker charges 300 rupees and not many can afford to buy water at this cost. Those who are unable to pay, have to travel for over five kilometers to fetch water.
