1,000-year-old miniature pagoda may hold top part of Buddha’s skullNew Delhi, Nov 24 : Archaeologists have determined that a 1,000-year-old miniature pagoda, which was recovered from an iron case found at a former temple site in China, could hold the top part of Buddha’s skull.

The pagoda was taken out of an iron box found in a secret underground chamber in the Changgan Temple ruins in Nanjing, capital of east China’s Jiangsu Province.

It is believed to be one of the 84,000 “pagodas of King Asoka (273 BC - 236 BC) that contain Buddha’s sarira, or his remains found in the cremation ash.

Pranab Mukherjee to visit Kathmandu

Pranab MukherjeeNew Delhi, Nov 24 : External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee will visit Kathmandu today to discuss issues, including the on-going peace process, economic cooperation and review of treaties and agreements.

Mukherjee will call on Nepal President Ram Baran Yadav, Prime Minister Prachanda, Foreign Minister Upendra Yadav and other senior political leader.

He will also be inspecting the Koshi Bank embankment and is scheduled to attend the ministerial level meeting of Nepal-India foreign affairs during his stay.

Advani says PM''''s 100-day roadmap to fight terror distressing

L K Advani, Manmohan SinghIndore, Nov. 24 : Addressing a press conference here on Monday, senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader L K Advani described Prime Minister Manmohan Singh''''s proposal for a task force to counter terrorism within a deadline of 100 days as "distressing" and demanded that the Prevention of Terrorism Act (POTA) be revived instead.

"Manmohan Singh took over as prime minister in May 2004 and after so many days, he is talking about a 100-day roadmap," Advani said.

Repolling underway in Chhattisgarh

Raipur, ChhattisgarhRaipur, Nov 24 : Repolling is taking place in 33 booths spread over seven Assembly constituencies in Chhattisgarh''s Bastar District.

Polling in these booths was affected during the first phase on November 14 due to Naxal violence.

In Madhya Pradesh, campaigning is on in full swing with just two days left for polls.

In Jammu and Kashmir, the filing of nomination papers for the fifth phase of polling will end by this evening. Polls are to be held on December 13 in 11 assembly segments spread over three districts of Kathua, Pulwama and Shopian.

In Rajasthan campaigning is in full swing.
