NSG welcomes Pranab’s statement: US office

Pranab MukherjeeVienna, Sep 5 : India''s statement has given a new momentum to the Nuclear Suppliers'' Group (NSG) meeting being held at Vienna, said US sources.

As per the US Arms Control Office, the NSG has welcomed External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee''s statement.

Seeking to allay apprehensions of certain NSG countries, India on Friday said it is committed to the strengthening of the non-proliferation regime and underlined the policy of no-first-use of nuclear weapons.

Punjab develops method to preserve green fodder for lean monthsAmritsar, Sep. 5 : Punjab agriculture department has developed a novel method to preserve green fodder by making silage and hay to feed the cattle when there is shortage of green fodder around September and October every year.

The novel technique recently formulated by the Department of Animal Husbandry, Punjab which has been successfully implemented in the border areas of Amritsar.

Due to the sowing of new crops, the scarcity of non-leguminous fodders such as maize, Jowar, Bajra and ryegrass has become real.

Air Force donates 223 tones of ration for Bihar flood victims

Bihar FloodNew Delhi, Sep 5 : The Indian Air Force has donated 223.80 metric tones of ration for the flood relief operations in Bihar.

The ration will mainly include Atta, Rice, Dal, Sugar, Salt and Ghee. The distribution of this ration will take place through Army Central Command, which is designated as the Nodal agency for Bihar flood relief operations.

Meanwhile, Union Home Secretary Madhukar Gupta today chaired a meeting of the National Executive Committee to review the flood situation in Bihar. Representatives from the concerned ministries of the Government of India and the Bihar Government were among those present at the meeting.

Human Rights Watch: Indian forces, Maoist rebels use child fighters

Human Rights WatchNew Delhi - Indian security forces and Maoist rebels should end the use of child fighters in their long conflict in the central state of Chhattisgarh, Human Rights Watch (HRW) said Friday.

The New York based rights group said both sides have long used children, some of them as young as 12, in armed operations.

While the Maoist rebels admit they recruit children, India's federal Home Ministry has denied the allegations.

Italian Catholics asked to fast for Christians in India Rome  - Italy's Roman Catholic bishops on Friday called on Italian dioceses to set aside a day on which the faithful will fast in solidarity with Christians in India who have been targeted in recent attacks.

The Italian Episcopal Conference (CEI) said it was taking up an appeal launched by Pope Benedict XVI who on August 27 urged an immediate end to acts of violence against Christians in the Indian state of Orissa.
