Deepika Padukone dazzles ramp at India Fashion Week

Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone New Delhi, Mar 22 : Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone on Sunday rocked the ramp for two designers at the ongoing Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week here.

On the fourth day of the fashion week, Padukone was the show-stopper for designers Rana Gill and Rina Dhaka.

The actress dazzled audiences in a multi-hued full-length gown and a short brown-and-white dress on a day when ballroom gowns and cocktail dresses ruled the ramp.

The actress expressed happiness on returning to a place from where she started.

Uttarakhand farmers benefit from hi-tech farmingNainital, Mar. 22 : Farmers in Uttarakhand are reaping it rich by cultivating vegetables, fruits and flowers by using hi-tech methods like greenhouse farming.

Government's Horticulture Technology Mission has initiated several benefiting schemes for the farmers in Padampuri region near Nainital.

The schemes include providing good quality seeds, fertilisers and insecticides at subsidised rates to the farmers. Technical and financial aids are also given to set up poly greenhouses to cultivate various fruits and flowers.

Militants attack political leaders and workers in Manipur

ManipurImphal, Mar 22 : In order to threaten the political parties to stay away from the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, the cadres of Kangleipak Communist Party-Military Council (KCP-MC) are targeting the Congress leaders in Manipur.

Bishnupur District Congress Committee President Waikhom Maipak Singh was shot at on March 10 night at his residence at Lairenkabi in Bishnupur.

Militants also fired three bullets at the residence of Tilotama Devi, President, Manipur Pradesh Youth Congress Committee at Singjamei Liwa Lambi Road on March 14.

Sri Damdama Sahib, the birthplace of Guru Granth Sahib

Sri Damdama SahibBathinda, Mar 22 : The magnificent Takht Sri Damdama Sahib, the fifth Takht or seat of temporal authority of Sikhism is situated at Bathinda in Punjab. The place holds vital importance as the tenth Guru of Sikhs Guru Gobind Singh prepared the revised and authentic version of the Sikh scriptures called Sri Guru Granth Sahib here in 1705.

Located at village Talwandi Sabo, 17 miles southwest of Bathinda City, Guru Gobind Singh arrived here at the invitation of Chaudhari Dalla, a landowner.

The place is now called Damdama Sahib, which means `the resting place'.

Women journalists discuss challenges faced in northeast

Imphal, Mar. 22 : The seventh annual conference of the National Network in Media, India (or NWMI) was held here to provide a glimpse into lives of women journalists who brave numerous difficulties in covering conflict issues.

Salma Shah and Satyamala Devi are two such Manipur based journalists, who have been highlighting the issues and problems affecting the State.

"This is really complicated being in a state like Manipur and handling all this situation by women in Manipur. It's really complicated," Shah said.

No possibility to host IPL semis and final in India: Modi

Indian Premier League (IPL) Commissioner Lalit ModiMumbai, Mar 22 : Indian Premier League (IPL) Commissioner Lalit Modi on Sunday ruled out the possibility of hosting the semifinals and final of the tournament in India.

"We explored all possibilities of hosting the semifinals and final in India. But it would have been too exhausting for the players," Modi said.

The Twenty20 is expected to be held in England from April 10 to May 24.
