Referees under fire in Bundesliga

Bundesliga clubHamburg - Goalkeeper Jens Lehmann has escaped the wrath of German football authorities following some outspoken criticism of a referee, but two others may not be so fortunate.

The German Football Federation (DFB) said its control panel would be investigating both Borussia Dortmund coach Juergen Klopp and Werder Bremen striker Claudio Pizarro following incidents in the weekend's Bundesliga matches.

Leading European wine maker eyes Indian joint ventureNew Delhi, Nov 10 : The German wine-maker, Langguth Wine and Spirits, is looking for an Indian partner to set-up a joint venture in the country.

Helmut G Seibert, the Executive Director of the company reveals, "Yes, this is one point we are thinking at the moment. We look at the growing wine culture in India."

Though, he declined to reveal other details, "At the moment, this year…it''s little bit early to say anything more about it but possibly next year, we''ll be able to tell more on this."

Rwandan official agrees to extradition to France

congoFrankfurt - A senior Rwandan official, Rose Kabuye, 47, who has been detained in Germany, has agreed to her extradition to France on murder and terrorism charges, a Frankfurt justice official said Monday.

Kabuye is chief of protocol to Rwandan President Paul Kagame and a leader of the Rwandan Patriotic Front. She was detained on Sunday when she arrived at the German city's airport.

At a first hearing, she agreed to a fast-track extradition, German public prosecutor Hildegard Becker-Toussaint said in Frankfurt.

Kabuye was being held in a women's prison in Frankfurt.

China calls on the US for more action to deal with financial crisis

German & China FlagBerlin - China called Monday on the US to step up moves aimed at dealing with the consequences of the world financial crisis.

"We need help from everyone to cope with the financial crisis," said Chinese Trade Minister Chen Deming in Berlin following a meeting with German Economics and Technology Minister Michael Glos.

But Chen called on the US to take more action to deal with the crisis that was triggered by a meltdown in the US mortgage market with the Chinese Trade Minister saying every nation needed to implement its own measures.

Force India lands McLaren and Mercedes deal

Formula OneHamburg - Force India will be powered by Mercedes engines and use McLaren equipment as well next season, the Formula One team of Indian billionaire Vijay Mallya announced on Monday.

Mallya said in a Force India statement that the long-term deal had been set up with the help of F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone and motorsport supremo Max Mosley.

The news came a few days after Force India announced an early end of its engine deal with Ferrari which was originally due to run 2007-2009.

Amnesty calls on European states to take Guantanamo men

Berlin - Amnesty International appealed Monday to Germany and other European nations to provide homes to 50 detainees from the US detention centre at Guantanamo Bay.
