Health authorities came to know about it in late February. But the general public was made aware about it on Wednesday. Dr. Dave Williams, Ontario's chief medical officer of health said that the strain, which first appeared on the British Columbia coast in 2006, could move into Quebec and the Maritimes in the coming fall and winter months.

Victoria general practitioner and local sports personality, Daniel Archie Buie, 65, has been restricted from medical practise for kissing a patient. 

The B.C. College of Physicians and Surgeons also exposed, that Buie had to withdraw from practice in March 2007 as, he hugged a patient in 2006, and in 2007 he hugged and kissed the same patient besides making unprofessional and inappropriate comments.

Buie was active in the local sports community. At one time he was the team physician for the Victoria Cougars of the Western Hockey League, before the club moved to Prince George in the early 1990s. Buie graduated from the University of B.C. in 1969.
