Jordan's king to visit France this week, premier says

King Abdullah IIAmman- Jordan's King Abdullah II will visit Paris later this week for talks with French President Nicolas Sarkozy on the latest Middle East developments, Prime Minister Nader Dahabi said Monday.

"Jordan looks with special interest and appreciation to France's effective role in reactivating the peace negotiations between the Palestinian and Israeli sides," Dahabi told a delegation representing the Jordanian-French Parliamentary Friendship Society.

Jordan's telecom sector reaps investments at 1.4 billion dollars Amman - Investment in Jordan's telecommunication sector reached 1 billion dinars (1.4 billion dollars) over the past seven years, Telecommunications Regulatory Commission head Ahmad Hiyasat said Thursday.

A number of new laws and regulations had helped boost competitiveness in Jordan's telecommunications sector, he told a foreign investment conference in Amman.

The government had also withdrawn from the sector and opened it to foreign investors - the first Arab country to do so, Hiyasat said.

Speaking at a foreign investment conference currently in process in Amman, Hiyasat said a number of laws and regulatory decisions had "helped to boost the competitiveness of the country's telecommunications sector."
