RComm To Set Up WiMax Network In 50 Countries By 2011

Reliance Communications (RCom), ADA Group Company, has decided to Reliance Communications establish WiMax networks across 50 countries by the next three years to make entry into the international telecommunication market.
 
To achieve its aim, the telecom major has decided to get hold of a Europe-based specialty WiMax operator.

The company has entered the advanced stage of discussions, and the transaction is expected to be completed in the next fiscal.

The acquirement, in the range of $300-400 million, would be made through the company’s global subsidiary that will come under ‘Reliance Globalcom’.

This would be the RCom’s initial overseas entry in th Wimax area.

RCom has already established WiMax networks in 18 cities in the country, where Tata Communications and BSNL already have a strong presence.
 
The European WiMas operator owns licenses and spectrum for WiMax operations in 20 countries across Eastern Europe, Africa and Latin America. But, the name of the company could not be discovered.

The purchase of the European company will allow RCom establish fresh WiMax network in these countries and expand the subsisting network. The Indian company will have to make additional investments in these countries.
 
This would be RCom’s second acquisition in the WiMax space.

It adopted a major stake in a French WiMax chip manufacturer Sequans Communications in February. However, the financial details of the acquisition were not disclosed up till now.
 
Further, RCom will swell its reach across countries in the Saarc region, Mediterranean and other South African nations.
 
RCom plans to offer speedy broadband services, voice, video and data suite and 4G services, after building inroads into the worldwide market. The company intends to hook up more than 2.5 billion individuals over WiMax networks.
