Rawalpindi local govt hires 30 tandoorwallahs to sell roti at Rs 2 during Ramzan

Rawalpindi local govt hires 30 tandoorwallahs to sell roti at Rs 2 during RamzanRawalpindi, Sept 23 : In order to combat the rising prices of eatables during the ongoing month of Ramzan, the Rawalpindi district government has decided to give subsidized flour to as many as 30 tandoorwallahs to enable them to cook and sell roti at Rs 2 and naan at Rs 5 each.

The district administration has also put around 60 tandoorwallahs into jail for selling the rotis and naans above the fixed prices.

The tandoorwallahs allege that they are not able to sell roti at Rs 2 in view of high fuel and flour prices.

Deputy District Officer (Revenue) Arshad Warraich said that tandoorwallahs would get flour at subsidised rate. “Six tandoorwallahs of Dhoke Khabba, Sadiqabad, Satellite Town, Lalkurti, Banni and Chakri Road had been engaged for the sale of roti at controlled price, while negotiations with others from different localities were underway,” the Daily Times quoted Arshad as saying.

Meanwhile, tadoorwallahs allege that flour prices had gone up by as much as Rs 1100 per 100 kg bag. “Tandoorwallahs were unable to sell naan at less than Rs 5 because a 100kg flour bag’s price had surged from Rs 2100 to Rs 3200 in the last one week,” said Malik Saleem Awan, a representative of tandoorwallahs.
