Rani To Pay Rs 66 Lac To Get Back Land Possession

Rani MukherjeeAce Bollywood actress Rani Mukherjee will have to pay Rs 66 lakhs to the state government in order to regain ownership of the land that she had purchased (in 2005) near Shirdi in Maharashtra.

The court declared that no one has the right to own the land as it is belonged to Maharashtra state farming corporation, and was extended on a lease.

On March 27, the state govt. has formally taken over the 11,000 sq ft of land purchased by Rani in the name of her father Ram Mukherjee.

However, the actress was totally ignorant that it was farming area and could not be sold.

Without confirming the fact, she paid Rs 1,32,000 as registration charges, and she was told the possession of the land could not be transferred under her name as it was government land leased out to a farmer.

The original owner of the land was a farmer who, with the permission of the government had started a brick kiln, in 1981. After that time, the property rates of the region increased immensely, he sold the land to a man by the name Sampat More. In turn, Sampat sold it to Rani for Rs 33 lakh.

But, when the question of legality arose, a case was registered and finally after two years, decision is announced supporting government and Rani lost her land.

Now, Shrirampur sub-divisional officer Nandkumar Suryavanshi stated that the possession claimed by Rani and 16 others was against the law. She and others will have to pay the prevailing market rates to get back their lands.
