Of Ramps, Rockers and Ruckus

RICHA SHUKLA was not about to miss this one! Students from all over the state came together at Jaipur to exchange ideas and have fun at the Jalsa festival. Here’s the update…

It was an evening that saw Bollywood singer Javed Ali serenading the crowd at the Jalsa festival on Tuesday. The performance by the Kajra re fame celebrity singer got the crowd to its feet, swaying to his songs.

The entire SMS Investment ground echoed with music and masti during the musical performance by the singer. But this was not all. The night also featured a fashion show by students of different colleges in which participants walked the ramp flaunting their attire and accessories to catchy music. The evening started with the stunning performances by the students in different categories like traditional, modern, junkyard and sports.

This extravaganza was followed by the musical treat by Ali who belted out songs like ‘Kahne ko jashne bahaara hai', ‘Ek din teri raahon me aaunga’, ‘Guzarish’, and many others. The audience was delighted by his performance, which lasted for more than an hour. Some of the foot-tapping numbers made youngsters dance uninhibitedly. Dainik Bhaskar’s Voice of Rajasthan’s runner up Pintu Swami also added to the fun and frolic with his songs.

The inter-collegiate festival Jalsa is an annual feature organised by Dainik Bhaskar. This year, the fest has been organised in association with business school EMPI, New Delhi.

There were various management and cultural events as well as entertainment programmes organised. Students from nearly 75 colleges took part in the Jaipur events under four segments-Brain Drain, Art Villa, Broadway and Temptation.

Another highlight of the evening was the fashion show, which saw the participation of students from across the state. The clothes that shared the limelight with the models had been created by the students themselves. While some outfits were creatively designed, others were smart improvisations that showed promise.

Jalsa is the biggest inter-collegiate festival, designed to create a platform for the youth to exhibit their versatility and to strengthen their talents.

All in all, students as well as teachers had a ball at the event. Not only did they meet new friends and exchanged ideas, Jalsa is proof that learning can also be fun!
