Rally Outside NJ Statehouse Undertaken by Supporters of Gay Marriage

Gay Marriage Keeping the constant pressure on lawmakers intact, a group of gay rights supporters rallied outside the New Jersey Statehouse today, urging the passage of a law that would legalize same-sex marriages in the state.

"I do this not because it makes a difference to me personally; I already have my marriage. And my traditional marriage is in no way affected by any same-sex marriage", said 42 year old Betty Wyka, a Catholic and a resident of Parsippany.

While about 150 supporters were rallying outside, another 100 were busy attending the committee hearings inside the Statehouse.

The bills also garner support from Assembly members Valerie Vaineri Huttle (D-Bergen) and John McKeon (D-Essex).

As for the passing of the bill, time seems to be running out and all those who are for and against it have their eyes on the clock. While Gov. Jon Corzine has agreed to sign the same-sex bill into law, Gov.-elect Chris Christie, who takes office Jan. 19, is opposed to it.

On January 12, the Legislature's current session is due to end.
