Rafa Benitez says Liverpool will not be derailed by World Cup break

Rafa Benitez says Liverpool will not be derailed by World Cup breakLondon, Apr. 2 : Liverpool FC coach Rafa Benitez has warned Manchester United that

The Anfield chief is convinced the fortnight gap will have no bearing on his rampant Reds' hopes of catching United.

"We were playing very well before the break, that is true. Now we have to start again. We want to pick up where we left things and carry on winning. We've every confidence it will be the same when we get everyone back," The Sun quoted him, as saying.

"I am really positive when I think about the rest of the season," he added.

Benitez and star player Steven Gerrard had earlier warned title favourites Manchester United that at present the momentum lies with them, and that Fergie's boys will have to be wary of this surge.

Benitez insists his team have all the momentum after putting United, Real Madrid and now fifth-placed Villa to the sword.

Gerrard's first Premier League hat-trick and strikes from Dirk Kuyt and Albert Riera mean the Kop's goal difference is now two better than United's, reports The Sun.

Benitez said: "We can keep this momentum - and the players know we can beat anyone. Now we are much closer and need to do our job and wait for United to make mistakes. They're still in a better position but we must keep pushing them."

Gerrard said: "It's good to win convincingly and everyone knows we're on a rich vein of form. Confidence is high.

"United are capable of winning all their remaining games but we've got to keep on their shoulders so they're going into games knowing we're ready to pounce on any mistakes they make." (ANI)
