Punj Lloyd wins Rs 264 crore Sikkim airport contract
Punj Lloyd Ltd has made an announcement that the company has been awarded a contract worth Rs 264 crore by Airports Authority of India. The order has been bagged for building first greenfield airport at Pakyong, Sikkim.
According to sources, the project, which is expected to be finalized within a duration of 24 months, includes the construction of a 30 metre wide runway of 1.7 km length, taxiway, apron drainage system and electrical work on the airport. The new airport will not only make an important contribution to the tourism infrastructure of the state but it will also ensure better connectivity of Sikkim with the rest of the country.
Speaking on the occasion, Atul Punj, Chairman, Punj Lloyd Group said, “ Punj Lloyd is proud to be building Sikkim’s first greenfield airport. Building infrastructure is the prime call of the Indian tourism industry, especially for a state like Sikkim that is yet unexplored and has the potential to become a preferred tourist destination.” Punj Lloyd group, is a leading diversified engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) company.
The sources further revealed that the airport will be set up at a height of 1404 metre above sea level. The scope of the work shall entail excavation of 100 metre depth an earth filing of 80 metre height.
