Public Private Programmes To Be Scrutinized By CAG: PMWhile attending the 24th conference of accountants general, the Prime Minister Emphasized the need to scrutinize the Public Private Programmes (PPP) for Fiscal discipline with an aim that it achieves its goals without any hindrances. The responsibility of such a scrutiny shall be with the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) which will carry out the evaluation just as it is does for the government agencies.

Dr Manmohan Singh said, “Public Private Partnerships are becoming increasingly common in projects in the key sectors of transport, power, urban infrastructure, tourism and railways, emphasising on the role of the CAG to develop a system of evaluating outcomes and beyond outcomes and evaluating impact of such key projects”.

He further stated that "Liberalization and globalization have brought forth new issues that public auditors must address.......audit needs new skills to evaluate these complex arrangements”.

During the speech to further explain, the PM gave the example of education where he said "we could measure performance in terms of enrolment ratios or student teacher ratio as outcomes of government's specific interventions........whether we are able to give our citizens good quality education”
