President Patil’s visit brings hope to northeast
Guwahati, Nov. 13 (ANI): People in Assam became aware of many educational and social projects during the visit of President Pratibha Devisingh Patil.
President Patil during her five-day visit inaugurated several infrastructural and developmental projects in the region.
In the first leg of her visit, President Patil was in Assam. She laid foundation stone of the Tezpur Medical College. Just a few months ago Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh had inaugurated the Jorhat Medical College.
President Patil appealed to the students of Meghalaya to work for the development of a peaceful and prosperous North East.
She said that making common health care affordable should be the future direction of the medical personnel especially in the northeastern India.
“Medical institutions, doctors and paramedics contribute to improving health paramedics of the society. Healthy citizens make a healthy Nation. The North East states with their potential project would definitely benefit for having healthy citizen who can give ignite economic growth in this region," said President Patil.
While hailing the President Patil’s visit local residents said that opening of medical colleges in the north-east was the need of the hour, considering local youngsters’ potential.
Jitendra Baruah, local resident of Tezpur, said: “If they open the medical college here in Tezpur, it will be beneficial for all. Doctors won''t have to go out of Assam. This will benefit them, as they can practice in their own hometown.”
During her second stopover, President Patil inaugurated the Baljek airport at Tura in West Garo Hills district, which was much awaited by the people. (ANI)
