Polling begins for Nepal by-elections

Polling begins for Nepal by-electionsKathmandu, Apr 10 : Voting has begun for the Constituent Assembly (CA) by-election for six vacant constituencies in five districts this morning.

The polling is being held one year after the CA elections.

Polling will continue till 5:00 p. m. It will decide the fate of 139 candidates representing six different political parties and as independent candidates are contesting in six constituencies of five districts.

The election is being held in Morang 5 and 7, Dhanusha 5, Kaski 1, Kanchanpur 4 and Rolpa 2.

The Election Commission has made the citizenship certificate mandatory for voting in this election, to prevent identity theft while voting. An Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) are being used.

Tight security arrangements have been made to avoid any kind of untoward incident. Nepal-India border has been sealed during elections in Dhanusha and Kanchanpur.

Some 2450 civil servants have been pressed into service at various 490 polling centres.

698 observers representing four international and three national organisations are observing the elections.

The results are expected to be announced by Sunday, nepalnews reports. (ANI)
